A fire destroyed the old Elliottstown general store on Tuesday morning, February 23 The building which was over 100 years old had been converted into 3 apartments by the owner, Richard Poe of rural Dieterich. The occupants of the apartments escaped the blaze and were not injured, including pets of the lower apartment dwellers, Carrie Madlem and Jordan Parker. Anthony Segarro and his fiance and her 4 children lived in the upstairs apartment and the back apartment was occupied by Steve Willis. His concern was his tax papers which he had been working on. A motorcycle and a few items from the garage on the south end were the only things saved from any of the apartments.

The regular meeting of the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Teutopolis was held on February 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The President, Jerry Weber, called the meeting to order and upon roll call the following trustees were present: Greg Hess, John Mette, Kenneth Esker, Joe Kroeger, and Greg Oseland. David Tegeler was not in attendance.

It was moved by Kenneth Esker, seconded by Greg Oseland and carried that the minutes of the last meeting are approved as read.

Tony Esker reported one building permit was issued in the month of January.

1. The Board approved Kari Musser as the TJH cheerleader sponsor for 2010-2011 school year.

2. The Board accepted the resignation of Chuck Pruemer as a substitute bus driver and the resignation of Rebekah Volk as high school cheerleading sponsor.

3. The Board agreed to advertise for the following teaching positions in house only: a grade school Special Education Preschool teacher, a high school Boys PE teacher, a high school Girls PE teacher, a junior high school Cheerleader Sponsor, and a high school Cheerleader Sponsor.

C'mon brothers and sisters for a musical tribute to the 1960's called "Everything's Groovy," script and music by Tim Kelly and Bill Francoeur.

The TJHS Eighth Grade cast will perform two public shows at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, and Saturday, February 27 at the Teutopolis Grade School Gym. Tickets can be bought at the door for adults $3 and students $1.

The setting is around the time of Woodstock at an apple farm owned by Elmer Crumb. Young organizers Travis, Muriel and Alice plan a free outdoor music fest called, "Music, Beads, and Flowers" at the farm. They invite the hip and groovy band, The Lemon Bugs to headline the show. When word gets out that the Lemon Bugs are performing a free concert, soon VW Beetle vans filled with Flower Children arrive in droves at Crumb's farm. The Love Generation is loved by all except Mrs. Porter, a charter member of The Society to Keep America Beautiful.

The Golden Circle Nutrition Tuesday evening meal at the Senior Center crowned a king and queen at its Valentine's Day party. Pictured is the new crowned King Eldon Ooton and Queen Ruth Brumleve. They were voted on by monetary donations. We hope to have this as a yearly event.

The Teutopolis 7th grade basketball team won the championship of the Class 7-3A Boys State Basketball Tournament on Thursday, February 11, against South Holland McKinley. Teutopolis led by one point at half-time and remained close throughout the rest of the game. The final score was 35-33. Teutopolis scorers were Hartke 14, Gebben 7, Niemerg 6, Thoele 4, and Jansen 4. South Holland McKinley scorers were Benford 10, Walker 10, Christian 9, and Reedy 4.
