Laura M. Bruer, 101, of Pontiac, passed away at 3:04 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac.
Her service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McDowell United Methodist Church in McDowell. Burial will follow at Patty Cemetery in Pontiac.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Laura was born May 7, 1917, in Algonquin to Charles and Pauline (Richards) Perteit. She married Harlan E. Bruer on Sept. 19, 1942, in Charleston, S.C. He passed away Dec. 19, 2012. Laura lived in their country home past the age of 101 years.
She is survived by her children, Mary McGuire of Crystal Lake, Bill (Jari) Bruer of Pontiac, David Bruer of Pontiac; grandchildren, Betsy (Todd) Stelter of Lemont, Shanna (Marcus) Hess of Bushnell, Laura (Steve) Weatherford of Encinitas, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Will and Anna Stelter, Harper, Finley, and Abbott Hess, and Ace, Carney, Aurora, Josie and Golden Weatherford.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Edna, and Arlene; and twin sister, Loraine.
Laura graduated from Dundee High School and the University of Illinois with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics in Hampshire and Marengo, and later taught Social Studies at Pontiac Junior High School for many years.
Laura was a member of McDowell United Methodist Church, the University of Illinois Alumni Association, American Legion Auxiliary, a 65-years member of the the Dialectics Literacy Society, the Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pontiac Woman’s Club, and Livingston County Home Bureau. She was a 4-H leader and was the first advisor to the Pontiac Junior High Builder’s Club.
With decades of teaching and the opportunity to educate thousands of children in her classes, one of her special joys was visiting with her former students.
