The National Trail Conference Tournament Championship was filled with intensity on Saturday, January 28 at Altamont High School between the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes and the Dieterich Movin' Maroons. Teutopolis and Dieterich defeated St. Elmo and St. Anthony, respectively, to compete in the championship of the tournament. This championship being the last for the Wooden Shoes because they are leaving the conference and the first for the Movin' Maroons.

Teutopolis began the game with starters, Lee Deters, Jon Mette, Mark Niebrugge, Kyle Pruemer, and Jared Waldhoff. Dieterich had its starters, Derek Cox, Addam Dahnke, Seth Flach, Nathan Garbe, and Dalton Hinterscher. It started out at a deadlock with neither team giving in its defenses to allow the other to score the first point of the game until Niebrugge made a three-point shot to break the initial friction. After a few more points were added for Teutopolis, Dieterich finally entered the board with a three-point shot made by Hinterscher, and then, Derek Smith scored two points for Teutopolis three seconds later in response. By the end of the first quarter, the Shoes had a lead over the Maroons, 15-5.

The Maroons scored more in the second quarter than the first, adding 12 points to the score by halftime, 7 of which were free throws. Teutopolis was consistent, bringing its score up another 13 points in the second quarter. With the Wooden Shoes maintaining the lead, the halftime score resulted 28-17.

After the first half, Teutopolis' defense was even more prominent with Wooden Shoe players covering the Maroons extremely close, limiting openings for them to pass and score. The Shoes used that to their advantage and scored more so by creating openings for themselves. Teutopolis scored an additional 21 points over Dieterich's additional 8 points, bringing the score of the third quarter to 49-25.

The fourth quarter brought out an extra effort on the Movin' Maroons' part, pushing to bridge the gap between scores. They achieved another 14 points, but it could not overcome the Wooden Shoes' supplemented 20 points in the fourth quarter, making the final score of the NTC Tournament Championship 69-39.

The final scorers for Teutopolis were Mark Niebrugge with 20, Derek Smith with 14, Jon Mette and Kyle Pruemer both with 10, Jared Waldhoff with 8, Lee Deters with 4, and Devin Falbe with 3 points. Final scorers for Dieterich include Dalton Hinterscher with 14, Nathan Garbe with 10, Derek Cox with 6, Austin Bushue, Addam Dahnke, Seth Flach, and Neil Thoele all with 2, and Brandon Westjohn with 1 point.
