Teutopolis Board of Education Met February 18

1. The Board approved Kari Musser as the TJH cheerleader sponsor for 2010-2011 school year.

2. The Board accepted the resignation of Chuck Pruemer as a substitute bus driver and the resignation of Rebekah Volk as high school cheerleading sponsor.

3. The Board agreed to advertise for the following teaching positions in house only: a grade school Special Education Preschool teacher, a high school Boys PE teacher, a high school Girls PE teacher, a junior high school Cheerleader Sponsor, and a high school Cheerleader Sponsor.

4. The Board approved policy changes from the School Board Association that were approved with a first reading last month.

5. The Board approved a contract with Glass and Shuffett, Ltd. to do the 2009-2010 Unit 50 Audit.

6. The Board approved a tentative date for High School Graduation to be on May 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Eighth Grade Promotion tentative date to be for May 28, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Both will be held at the High School.

7. The Board approved the Volunteens garage sale and bake sale on March 20, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The community may drop off items on Friday, March 19, from 3:30 -5:30 p.m.

8. The Board approved the amendment to the 2009-2010 school year calendar. The amended calendar currently puts the last attendance day for students as May 27, 2010.

9. The Board accepted the proposed school calendar for the 2010-2011 school year. The first day of student attendance will be August 17, 2010.

10. The Board approved a one-year leave request for Renae Roepke. She will be taking her leave during the 2010-2011 school year. Myra Pruemer was approved to use a FMLA leave. She will be taking intermittent time off as needed for her family.

11. The senior class trip was approved with the schedule as presented. The seniors will go to Chicago on April 28, 2010 for their trip.

12. The Board hired Pat Drees as the Teutopolis Junior High Principal for the 2010-2011 school year. Pat is a Teutopolis graduate and has been teaching junior students for the last 13 years. He is currently teaching at Effingham Junior High School.

13. The Board approved the Enterprise Zone request as presented by Todd Hull. Patterson Dental will build a new facility in the enterprise zone which will be located in the Teutopolis School District. A Resolution was passed authorizing the property tax abatement for the project.

14. The Board was informed that Austin Johnson for Teutopolis Grade School and Eddie Siemer for Teutopolis Junior High won their school spelling bees. Both advance to Mulberry Grove for the next competition on February 26, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

15. Charlie Semple gave his annual Transportation Report. He recommended the Board buy one school bus and one activity bus. He also would like the district to purchase a new lawnmower.

16. Susan Yallaly discussed activities and the well being of the district libraries as part of a grant application for the district.

17. The district held an expulsion hearing for student "A." Student "A" will be expelled for one calendar year. He will be allowed to attend the alternative program in Effingham.

18. The Board discussed the possibility of joining the Apollo Conference. More information needs to be gathered before a decision can be made.
