Christine (Henkelman) Quatman will be celebrating her 95th birthday on Monday, January 5, 2009. She was born to John and Caroline Henkelman of Effingham, with one sister, Sr. M. Annora, SSND, and 3 brothers, L.A., Leonard, and Ray. She was married to Joe Quatman of Teutopolis.

The St. Francis CCW Christmas party was held on December 15 at 6:30 PM in the grade school auditorium.

The Three Kings will be visiting area homes this year on January 2, 3, and 4.

Daren Tegeler is celebrating his 20th Birthday and Christmas in Afghanistan. 

Joseph Worman, son of Paul and Patty Worman of Rural Dieterich, is doing his basic training for the Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia.

Sister Claritus Hartke will be celebrating her 92nd birthday on December 15. She is the oldest of ten children of Aloysius and Clara Cremer Hartke formerly of Bishop. She has 3 living sisters, Sister Bernice Hartke of St. Louis, Martha Wente of Wheeler, and Catherine Hardiek of Dieterich.

When WEIU TV’s Heartland Highways visited Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, IL in December of 2007 to do a story about The Advent Evensong, they knew this was a special event. With that in mind, they decided to record the entire Evensong program and turn it into a holiday television special.

All women of St. Francis parish are invited to the annual St. Francis Council of Catholic Women Christmas Party on Monday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Grade School Gym.

The annual Christmas Party at the Dieterich Civic Center will be on Wednesday, December 10 beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the Dieterich school children entertaining.

The Teutopolis Lions will be having a Christmas light contest and will be rewarding the best outdoor lighting display within the city limits of Teutopolis. Judging will be on Sunday, December 14 starting at 6:00 p.m.

A card shower is being held for Mrs. Joe (Agnes) Kremer of Teutopolis to celebrate her 85th birthday on November 15.

Ruth (Miller) Hardiek, of Effingham, will celebrate her 80th birthday on November 5.

A card shower is being planned on October 31 for the 90th birthday of Sister Mary Michael Koebele.

The Knitting Circle Crochet Club of Effingham continues to meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Luttrell Room of the Helen Matthes Library in Effingham, Illinois.  However, due to circumstances beyond our control, for the third Tuesday of October (Oct. 21) we will meet at St. Francis Church in Teutopolis in the Museum Dining Room (southwest corner of building, park by Habing Furniture).
