The seventh Montrose School Reunion was held September 5 at the Dieterich Civic Center. Hostesses were Ruby Harris of Montrose and Pat Wendt and Norma Doedtman of Effingham. Pat also served as Emcee.

Others attending were: Sally Hilton, Milton and Doris McKinney, Deloris Flach, Dennis and Jewel Fletcher and Dennis and Janet McMahon of Montrose; Ruth Shadwell, Laura Baker, Arthur and Betty Schottman and Richard and Mary Ann Sanders of Effingham; Leona Hartke and Karen Drees of Teutopolis; Martha Ann Watkins, Atha Sanders and Ben and Phyllis Sowers of Toledo; Pat and Barbara Smith of Greenup; Ellen Clark of Jewett; Louie and Marge Probst of Newton; Carl Browning and Marge Cain of Mattoon; Robert and Susan McClain and Evelyn Metzgers of Charleston; Wilma Jean Yeske of Canton; Garland and Mary Ellen Kingery of Chatham; and Tony Demichael of Niles.

Attending from out of state were: Bill and Leah Davis of Colorado Springs, CO; Harry and Mary Van Sandt of Vancouver, WA; Bernard and Claire Browning of Indianapolis, IN; Harry and Joan Kremer of Rising Sun, IN.

A catered meal was served at noon and the afternoon was spent visiting, reminiscing and looking at pictures.

Prizes were awarded to the following: Door prize to Martha Ann Watkins, person with most grandchildren to Ben Sowers and youngest person to Harry Kremer.

The first school in the district was taught in 1854 and the first school house was built in 1856. The last high school class was taught in 1948 and the last grade school class was taught in 1976.
