Harry D. Parks, 92, of South Elgin, IL passed away at 9:15 a.m., on Monday, October 16, 2017 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church, 1501 North Keller Drive in Effingham, IL. Pastor John Hollis will officiate. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Effingham American Legion will be in the Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Effingham, IL. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola is assisting the family with arrangements.

Harry was born on July 23, 1925 in Mattoon, IL. He was a son of Earl and Blanche (Leith) Parks. He married Ruth Ashbaugh on April 26. 1947 in Jackson Township. She passed away on May 13, 2016. Harry was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Harry is survived by seven children, Clayton Parks of Elburn, Dennis (friend Jackie) Parks of Effingham, Gerald “Mark” (Angela) Parks of Effingham, Lloyd “Jimmy” (Jill) Parks of St. Charles, IL, Sandra (Phil) Schiber of Livingston, CA, Sharon (Clint) Herdegen of Hoffman Estates and Harvey (Laura) Parks of South Elgin; sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one sister, Melba Gillispie of Lawrenceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two children, Stephen Parks, and Robert “Bobby” Parks, and nine siblings.
