The CSS’ annual art auction fundraiser will be held this Friday evening, May 4th, 2018 at 6:30pm so come support our Artists and enable them to continue doing what they love . . . . painting!

Community Support Systems provides Art Classes to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Developmental Training Center in Teutopolis. With the assistance of two very talented Art Instructors, Jan VonBokel and Karen Weber, this unique and innovative program was developed to provide the individuals being served with a creative means for them to express themselves.

The Art Program at CSS has become a favorite activity at CSS. It has proven to be very successful. The program not only provides these individuals with a creative means of self-expression and increased self-esteem but has been very empowering, affording them opportunities to not only learn about new ways of artistic expression, but giving them the tools to discover their own inner artist. Many amazing art pieces have been created and recognized as being superior work, winning awards in various Art contests throughout the State.

Each year CSS holds an Annual Art Auction as a fundraiser to support the Art Program. This year’s Auction in conjunction with the Effingham Artisan Fair will be held at the “Art’s & Hearts” Event at the Effingham Artisan Fair on Friday, May 4th, 2018 at 6:30pm on the East Side of the Courthouse on the blacktop parking lot. Thirty-seven paintings created by the Artists in the Art Program at Community Support Systems will be on the Auction. All paintings will be on display at least one hour prior to the Auction.

With the on-going funding crisis in the State of Illinois for programs such as Community Support Systems, fundraisers such as the Annual Art Auction at the Artisan Fair have become very important, providing the financial assistance necessary to allow the art program to continue its success. We are truly blessed with the community support we have received and are very grateful to live in such a generous community.

The participants in the Art classes will also have a booth at the Annual Artisan Fair on Saturday, May 5, 2018, on the courthouse Square where their featured artwork will be available for purchase. In addition, the Artists of CSS currently have their artwork on display and available for purchase at Joe Sipper’s Café in Effingham. Be sure to stop by both of these locations to get some nice artwork that will enhance any area of your home or office. All profits from their paintings at their booth will go back to the Artists themselves.

The artists are proud and excited to be able to share their artistic talents with the public. The community’s support of this program not only means a lot to the Agency but even more to the students who work so hard to create fabulous and unique pieces of art. Please come and do not be afraid to bid against each other. Remember that this is a fundraiser and 100% of the proceeds from the Art Auction go directly back to the CSS Art Program. The more money the auction makes—the more benefits the CSS Art Program can provide to the Artists.

Be sure and check out our photo gallery on this web site for photos of all the artists and paintings later today.
