MACOMB — On Saturday, the Horn Field Campus hosted its second week of the WIU corn maze, where for $5 and 30 minutes guests can march through a massive WIU logo carved into the cornfield.
Although the maze's occupants were sparse when the Voice arrived at about 1 p.m., volunteer and co-organizer Ben Hoffman said 30 visitors had explored it in just the first hour.
The maze and trail events are organized and staffed by students in the Western Illinois University Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration academic programs. The maze and some of the other special events at Horn Field Campus form a part of the hands-on curriculum in the programming class.
The maze will be available for another week, with its final opening on October 27 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Proceeds from the admission will go towards paying Horn Field’s staff, and purchasing helmets for the rope challenge course on Horn Field’s hiking trail.
The same trail will be hosting another event on Sunday, October 28: The Haunted Trail. The hiking trail will be loaded with costumed actors and decorations, creating a haunted house experience in an outdoor setting. Admission for this haunted trail will be $5 for all ages and features two variants: first is a family-friendly trail from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a scary trail from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m..
Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. Further questions can be directed to HF-Campus@wiu.edu, or call 309-298-HORN (4676). Horn Field Campus is located at 985 China Road, Macomb.
