The Teutopolis Grade School celebrated President Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday on February 12 with birthday activities throughout the school day. Lincoln facts were announced throughout the morning by homeroom representatives and there was a reading of the Gettysburg Address at 9:30 a.m. During the afternoon, the different grades watched a movie about the life of Abraham Lincoln and enjoyed birthday cake. From February 1-12, there was a contest as to which homeroom could collect the most pennies and pennies were collected in each homeroom from Pre-School to 6th grade. On February 12 at 2:00 p.m., the 4th grade students walked from the school to Teutopolis State Bank with the entire school’s collection of pennies being pulled in wagons and carts. The collection of pennies totaled $1,253.94. The homeroom which collected the most pennies was Mrs. Chesnut’s 6th grade class with a total of $105.50 followed closely by Mrs. Borries’ 5th grade class with a total of $102.42.

The money collected in honor of Abraham Lincoln will be used to buy books for the Teutopolis Grade School Library especially books about President Lincoln and other presidents.

The staff at TGS would like to thank the community for their support of this project.
