IL State Police Release Court Decision Preventing Disclosure of FOID Information

Illinois State Police Officials today announced they are not required to release the names and addresses of individuals who possess Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) cards based on a Peoria County Circuit Court ruling. The Court also finds that the release of names is exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which permanently bars the Illinois State Police from revealing the identities of the state's firearm owners.

IL Police Warn Drivers To Prepare For Inclement Weather

As the winter driving season approaches, Illinois State Police are warning motorists to take the necessary precautions before getting behind the wheel.  Vehicle safety is equally important to driving safely while on the roadways.

Extreme weather can have a devastating impact on driving conditions, especially when ice and snow are involved.  Freezing rain, icy roads and white-out snow conditions can result in road hazardous for drivers of all ages.

Fire Under Investigation

On November 17 at 6:56 p.m., the Teutopolis Fire Department was dispatched to 15351 E 1200th Ave, Effingham (the Mark Bussman Farm) for a report of a Structure Fire with several straw bales on fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene and found the straw bales fully involved in flames with exposures to other structures nearby.

Electrocution Accident Being Investigated

Tanner Flach, of Montrose, was electrocuted on July 5 when a lift he was operating touched a power line near a grain elevator in Metcalf, IL. According to Edgar County Coroner, Pete Templeton, Tanner had been cleaning one of the elevators for painting at the Total Grain Marketing facility in Metcalf.

IL State Police District 12 Citations and Arrests for May

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 12 Commander Richard Britton has announced district enforcement figures and activity for May 2011.

ISP District 12 Troopers issued 1,902 traffic citations, 1,347 warnings and made 75 criminal arrests during the month of May. Troopers investigated 109 traffic crashes, assisted 329 motorists, and conducted 378 commercial vehicle and driver inspections, 59 of which were placed out-of-service.

2011 Illinois Sheriffs' Association Scholarship Awarded

Benjamin Zuber, son of Gordon and Jane Zuber of Teutopolis, is the 2011 Illinois Sheriffs' Association scholarship winner from Effingham County.  Benjamin will graduate this year from Teutopolis High School and plans to further his education at SIU, Carbondale, where he will major in Workforce Education.

Illinois State Police Statement on AG FOID Card Opinion

Springfield, IL - The Illinois State Police respectfully disagrees with the recent opinion of the Attorney General's Public Access Counselor (PAC) regarding the release of names of Firearm Owner Identification cardholders. The Department intends to request that the PAC issue a binding opinion so that the issue may be resolved through the judicial process.

Fire in Elliottstown

A fire destroyed the old Elliottstown general store on Tuesday morning, February 23 The building which was over 100 years old had been converted into 3 apartments by the owner, Richard Poe of rural Dieterich. The occupants of the apartments escaped the blaze and were not injured, including pets of the lower apartment dwellers, Carrie Madlem and Jordan Parker. Anthony Segarro and his fiance and her 4 children lived in the upstairs apartment and the back apartment was occupied by Steve Willis. His concern was his tax papers which he had been working on. A motorcycle and a few items from the garage on the south end were the only things saved from any of the apartments.

Teutopolis Apartment Catches Fire

An apartment building located at 611 W. Main Street in Teutopolis caught on fire at about 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23.

Barn Fire at the Miller Farm

On Saturday, July 11 at approximately 3:00 p.m., a fire completely destroyed a barn at the Tom and Annie Miller farm in Teutopolis. The farm is situated about 2 miles east of the city limits.
