An apartment building located at 611 W. Main Street in Teutopolis caught on fire at about 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. The Teutopolis, Montrose, and Effingham firefighters responded to a call from a passerby who saw smoke coming from the apartment building. The firefighters were able to contain the fire to that one building but it will probably be a total loss from the looks of it. The firefighters cut a hole into the roof as well as the front of the apartment so they could more easily spray water into the building. The apartment building is owned by Bob and Linda Campbell and they had one tenant, Dan Auteberry, who was not home at the time of the fire.
A State Fire Marshall was on the scene Friday to investigate the cause of the fire.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell would like to thank all the fire departments and anyone who helped them in regards to the fire.
