During the week of February 6, the Siemer Milling Company had eight grain bins taken down and removed in order to make room for two huge grain bins. The old grain bins had been in place since the 1970's and could hold approximately 80,000 bushels per bin.
The two new grain bins will each be 90 feet in diameter, 120 feet tall, and will hold approximately 550,000 bushels of grain per bin. The two new grain bins will hold almost 60 percent more grain than the recently demolished eight grain bins.
According to Rick Siemer, the new grain bins should be up and operational by July in time for the 2012 harvest.
