Marilyn L. (Funneman) Smith, 53, of Teutopolis, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She will always be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis. Visitation was from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 6 at St. Francis Church with a parish wake service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials for Marilyn may be made to the Donor's Choice.
Marilyn was born on March 12, 1957 to the late Ambrose and Mary (Jansen) Funneman. She was the 9th child of 10 and the youngest daughter. Marilyn was a hard working farm girl who loved the corn and cows. She was a graduate of Teutopolis High School in 1975. Marilyn married Mark D. Smith of Altamont on March 26, 1997. She has 2 children, Dawn (Willenborg) Dunston, wife of Weldon H. Dunston III of Effingham, and Jonathan Willenborg, husband to Danielle (Spencer) of Champaign; and 2 step-children, Brianne Smith of Washington, D.C. and Tyler Smith of Altamont. Three grandchildren call her "Oma"; Daelyn and Weldon H. Dunston IV of Effingham and Cameron Willenborg of Champaign. Her brothers and sisters are as follows: Gerald Funneman of Teutopolis, Jeanne (Roy) Campbell of Effingham, Rosella (the late Jerald) Kingery and Kenneth (Peggy) Funneman both of Teutopolis, Linda (David) Young of Sigel, Francis (Cathy) Funneman of Teutopolis, Dolores (Pete) Wilmarth of Frisco, TX and Dennis (Marilee) Funneman of Teutopolis.
Marilyn worked for more than 20 years at Quebecor World Color Press. She followed up with her working career at Stevens Industries and Comfort Suites. She was known by all as a hard-worker. Marilyn thoroughly enjoyed spending time camping and canoeing with all of her family. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She is survived by her husband, her children, step-children, brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. Her Aunt Pauline Jansen is a resident of Lakeland Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marita Connelly; and several aunts and uncles.
