Floyd F. Baker, 85, of Effingham, passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at his home in Effingham.
Floyd was born on May 4, 1925 in Sigel, the son of Earl and Hester (Wolf) Baker. He married Mary L. Hoelscher on July 29, 1950 and she survives.
He was a heavy equipment operating engineer, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Effingham; 3 sons, Dennis (Connie) Baker of Olathe, KS, John Baker of Farina, and Timothy (Diane) Baker of Beecher City; 5 daughters, Susan (Robert) McMullen of Effingham, Judy Milanec of Tuscola, Ruth (Jay) Kersey of Effingham, Jane Scheer of Charleston, and Nancy Baker of Bradley; 12 grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy, Allison, Chad, Kim, Richard, Russel, Sara, Jennifer, Daniel, Amber and Jonnathon; 4 great-grandchildren, Kira, Gavin, Alexis, and Evelyn; 1 step-grandchild, Jason; 1 step great-grandchild, Alexander; 7 brothers, Paul (Wilma) of Lodi, CA, Norman (Leona) of Hidalgo, Vernon (Marlene) of Sigel, Lowell (Joan) of Effingham, Arthur (Ruth) of Sigel, Donald (Joan) of Neoga, and James (Loella) of Effingham; and 2 sisters, Bonnie Baker of Sigel and Loretta Tegeler of Sigel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Patrick; 2 brothers, Max and Earl, Jr.; 1 sister, Sara Carpenter; 1 infant brother, George; and one grandchild, Jessica Epperson.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis with burial at St. Francis Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation was from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service.
