Garry Michael Utz, 66 of Lakewood, Colorado, formerly of Effingham and Dieterich, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2009, at his home.
Garry was born in Effingham on September 5, 1942 and married Margie (Marg) Hardiek at Immaculate Conception Church, Dieterich, IL, on January 21, 1967. He worked for Mayhood Construction and Cliff Grunloh Construction in Effingham before moving to Lakewood in 1972, where he owned his own business. He was proud to have helped build Sacred Heart Church in Effingham. He had a passion for Colorado, reading, and wood working. He was a master carpenter, selfless husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Marg, of 42 years; children, Annette (Will) Carpender, Jeff (Bretton) Utz, Chris (Kristy) Utz; grandchildren, Emma and Andrew Carpender, Jacob Barrows, Lauren and Audrey Utz, all of Denver; sister, Marilyn Utz of Effingham; brothers, Bob (Carol), Tom (Phyllis) and Kevin (Kathy) Utz, all of Effingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Thelma (Hutmacher) Utz; brother, Kenton Utz; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 17, followed by recitation of the rosary at Horan and McConaty Family Chapel in Lakewood. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, July 18, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Lakewood with burial in Golden Cemetery, Golden, Colorado.
