Carl L. Parks, 94 of Mason, IL died at 5:55 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his home.
Carl was born on June 13, 1915, in Effingham County, the son of Robert and Mildred (Brady) Parks. He married Lucille Zimdars on March 4, 1941 in St. Louis, MO.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a prisoner of war for eighteen months during WWII. He was a member of the Effingham V.F.W. He was a Union Township road commissioner for twenty-three years. He was engaged in farming for seventy years.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Parks of Mason; daughter, Joan (husband Gilbert) Garbe of Dieterich; two grandsons, Brad (wife Dana) Garbe of Effingham, and Brian (wife Lisa) Garbe of Carterville; three great-grandsons, Grant, Austin, and Ethan Garbe all of Carterville; step great-grandchildren, Gretchen Bright, Kurt Thull, and Zach Thull; step-great-great granddaughter, Jorie Bright; special nieces, Sheila (husband Garry, deceased) Nelson, Gayle (husband Robert) Nelson, Linda (husband Duane) White, and Cathy (husband Donald) Banning.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Cora Parks; four half-sisters and two half-brothers.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, IL with Rev. Glenn Renken officiating. Burial with military rites was in Ridge Cemetery, rural Mason. Visitation was on Friday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
