Tabitha B. Rubin, 87, formerly of Effingham, IL and Farina, IL, died at 6:15 p.m., on Monday, June 21, 2010, at Heartland Health Care, Canton, IL.
Tabitha was born on January 4, 1923 in Teutopolis, Illinois, the daughter of Anthony J. and Clara M. (Thoele) Mammoser. She married Kenneth E. Rubin on February 16, 1946 in Henderson, KY. Tabitha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was also proud of her work outside of the family. She started her career as a secretary in Chicago and Effingham. After she became married and had children she taught herself to upholster furniture so that she could work from her home. After her children were in school she worked for several years as the receptionist for Dr. Hanz Rollinger in Farina, IL. She and her husband moved from Farina to Effingham in 1981 where she worked as a tax preparer and real estate agent. She believed in always improving oneself and took classes in art, English, computers, and real estate. She loved to read and sew and she made great cherry pies from cherries she grew in her backyard.
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, and the Third Order of St. Francis.
Survivors include her children, Constance Schall of Effingham, Candace (husband, Charles) Burns of Springfield, IL, and Angela (husband, Darrell) Dunteman of Lewistown, IL; grandchildren, Amy Miller of Effingham, Matthew (wife, Joy) Rubin of Effingham, Emily Schall of Effingham, Kate (husband, Kevin) Hough of St. Charles, MO, Sam (wife, Carie) Rubin of Effingham, Marissa (husband, John) Swinghammer of Boston, MA, Astra (husband, Lucas) Lawrence of Effingham, Alicia Bell of Washington, IL, Elizabeth Burns of Berkeley, CA, and Douglas (wife, Carlie) Dunteman of St. Charles, IL; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (2000); daughter, Patricia (1998); and son, Kenneth Jr. (2007).
She will be deeply missed by her family. She met the many challenges in her life with strength and love.
Funeral Services were held at 1:00p.m. on Friday, June 25, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham, with Msgr. Leo Enlow officiating. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on Friday, June 25, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Burial was in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Teutopolis, IL.
