Laura H. Deters, 103, of rural Teutopolis passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
Laura was born on April 7, 1906 in Watson Township to John M. and Anna (Schumaker) Feldhake. She married Raymond "Ray" Deters on October 28, 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1981.
Laura was a homemaker and farm wife. She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lillyville, Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women, Teutopolis Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #1711, and the Cumberland County Home Extension.
Survivors include 3 sons, Robert (wife Rita) of Teutopolis, Donald (wife Barbara) of Teutopolis, and Harold (wife Jeanette) of Decatur; 1 daughter, Bernice (husband Donald) Broom of Teutopolis; 1 daughter-in-law, Phyllis Deters of Teutopolis; 27 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Wilburn; 2 grandchildren, Nancy Deters and Marilyn Deters; 3 brothers, Ed, Clarence, and Martin; and 2 sisters, Josephine and Johanna.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lillyville with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lillyville. Visitation was from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the church with a combined C.D. of A. and C.C.W. rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service. Bauer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
