Henry "Hank" J. Hemmen, 70, of Teutopolis, IL went to live with the Lord at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at his home.
Henry was born on July 11, 1939 in Cumberland County, IL the son of Frank and Anna (Waldhoff) Hemmen. He married Anna Marie Thoele on September 9, 1961. She preceded him in death in 1971. He married Beverly Ann Braun on November 16, 1973 in Effingham and she survives.
He was a member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus, the Men's Holy Name Society of the church, a former Teutopolis town board member, and past president of the Teutopolis Lions Club.
Henry was employed at Effingham Equity for thirty-eight years. He was a part-time farmer, enjoyed gardening, picture framing, and outings with his friends in Pope County.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Ann of Teutopolis; children, Jane (Paul) Kemme of Effingham, Julie (Gene) Pierce of Lynchburg, VA, Kenny (Wendy) Hemmen of St. Louis, MO, Ted (Tawnia) Hemmen of Marshall, and Cheryl (Stafford) Gill of Clanton, AL; grandchildren, Josh and Shannon Kramer, Jacob and Jenna Pierce, Paige, Cole, and Brooke Hemmen, Kassy and Jess Hemmen, Paige Kemme, Tyler and Torie Gill; brothers, Frank (Anna Marie) Hemmen Jr., and John (Mary) Hemmen; sisters, Helen Schumacher, Lucy Uptmor, Lou Ann (Ken) Niemerg, and Pauline Hoedebecke; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, B.J. and Ralph Kortte, and Shirley and Jerry Moon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant siblings, Anna Marie, Le Roy B. and Raymond A. Hemmen; first wife, Anna Marie; sister, Carrie and husband, Lloyd Verdeyen; in-laws, Bill and Caroline Braun, Lefty and Gert Meyer; and brothers-in-law, Bernard Schumacher and Joe Hoedebecke.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis, IL. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Teutopolis. Visitation was from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Cancer Center, Effingham attention to charitable donations area; and to the S.E.A.R.C.H program.
