Where has the civility in government gone? Never in all my years have I seen such a vicious attack on the previous administration. On the other hand, Bush has shown decorum and class by not responding in kind. The campaign is over and you won.
Since there is so much controversy about who knew what and when, about enhanced interrogation techniques, why doesn't Obama release the CIA memos that could shed light on the issue? Speaker Pelosi has made this a big issue even making very serious accusations against the CIA, maintaining they deceived and lied to Congress. Considering the current mood in Washington, I would venture a guess that the memos would not substantiate her allegations. At any rate, the public is entitled to know the truth. In my humble opinion, there should be a thorough investigation conducted, with testimony given under oath, and suitable justice administered to the guilty. Let the chips fall where they may, but such a serious charge shouldn't be allowed to just die. So much for transparency, only partial information is revealed.
It is painfully evident that the United States is being led on the path to Socialism. Although the President says he has no interest in taking over the Financial and Automotive industries, since the bailouts, he has been able to discharge some C.E.O.s, and set salary caps and rescind bonuses. These functions are normally the responsibility of the stockholders. In all probability, the next industry to be controlled by Washington will be health care. While I realize costs are high, our system is still the best in the world. If you think socialized medicine is the answer, listen to people who are living in those countries that have it.
Past history proves that whenever the government undertakes business, it is not very successful. Take the U.S. Postal Service for example. Postal rates keep increasing and so does its deficit, while the Postmaster General gets substantial salary increases. In the Financial industry, C.E.O.s get fired for poor performance.
Our Capitalist form of government has serve us well for about 230 years, and has been the envy of the whole free world. Let's not lose it now. Hopefully it's not already too late.
