Dear Editor:
Since both the Clinton and Bush administrations made broad use of Executive Orders, the president's use of these orders has come under fire. President Bush, especially, came under fire for stepping over the constitutional boundary separating the legislative and executive branches. In a possible foreshadowing of whether or not the Obama administration would follow in Bush's footsteps in the use of executive orders, John Podesta, Obama's transition team co-chair stated: "There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that."
I need someone to show me in the Constitution where the Executive branch (the President) had ANY authority to issue Executive orders or make signing statements or in any other way legislate laws. I can't find any such thing in my copy of the Constitution!
