The Injured Cardinal - Gets a Chance to Fly Again

Thump, what was that Mysterious sound? It was almost as if glass popped. Gradually, I arose along with my mother to investigate the situation. The air was crisp and clear outside of the sunroom. Glowing sunshine peered through the window panes. Looking through the clear glass it was as if you were standing outside in the cold but you could feel the warmth of the fireplace inside. Soon the culprit was found. A beautiful red cardinal took a flight into the clear glass. He lay aimlessly on the patio. Just as if a plane had wrecked, nose to the ground, wings spread out and his leg or landing gear was gathered under him. Quickly, I checked to see if he was breathing. He seemed to be taking short deep breaths. Gradually I was able to set him upright. Big brown eyes rolled deep into the sockets, stability was hard to come by for the small delicate animal. I exited to let him rest and upon returning a few minutes later I picked the small creature up. He was very gentle with me as I with Him. Now his balance seemed to have returned and away he flew. Right into the downspout, what a wrong turn this tiny creature was to take. Oh, this time I picked him up and was very unsure of the outcome. His neck was bent under, he was screeching in pain, his one leg was drawn to his bright red chest. The end seemed to be near on this second turn of events. I again placed him on the ground, still as in the same condition as he crashed. Several minutes later I checked on him. Now again the beautiful creature was sitting in an upright position. Consistently, he was keeping his balance. Several hours later my mother went to check on the what seemed to be hopeless bird. Amongst her surprise, the bird was nowhere to be found. He must of taken flight. I do believe the animal was given another chance and he took the chance.

Throughout the day I was wished a Happy New Year from California, Missouri and throughout Illinois. Seems like we all have a chance to renew ourselves just as the bird. God seems to always forgive us and give us a second chance. Many of us have many small things that have made us take wrong turns. Others have crashed head first just like the bird. Seems that we are down for a while and then given time, we get another chance to rise beyond the fall. Time passes and we are doing really well and then we fail again. Don't feel defeated because you fell and crashed head on, start right new and forgive the most important person in your life - YOURSELF. Now, start over with small steps at a time. It doesn't matter whether you have put down  a friend, told a lie, lost your temper, drank to excess or even major failures. Maybe you are deep in credit card debt, or possibly harmed someone physically by losing your temper. Other possibilities might be drug addiction or maybe you have failed at a relationship. Some of these major failures you may need to seek counseling or some form of professional help to assist you. Just remember we are not failures, we are humans that make many, many mistakes. Sometimes we just need to suck it up and say we are sorry and mend the things that we have broken.

An older gentleman that lived to be 104 years of age was asked, "What do you attribute your longevity of life too?" He replied, "I see the bad in the good people and the good in the bad people." What a truthful statement. So today I challenge you to look deep in your heart and forgive yourself for any wrecks that you have been a victim of whether large or small. Maybe you know someone that is troubled, so instead of talking to someone else about this person's problem, maybe you could ask them if you can help by just being there for them. Pray for God's forgiveness. You and I have the chance to fly again.
