On Monday, January 24, the Senior Night basketball game for the Teutopolis Lady Shoes was held at home against the Mattoon Lady Green Wave with seniors Shelby Kroeger, Jessie Wendt, and Emma Zerrusen being recognized for their efforts on the basketball team.
Teutopolis obtained the first lead of 7 points in the first quarter by keeping a solid defense over Mattoon, making the overall score at 11-4.
The National Trail Conference Tournament Championship was filled with intensity on Saturday, January 28 at Altamont High School between the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes and the Dieterich Movin' Maroons. Teutopolis and Dieterich defeated St. Elmo and St. Anthony, respectively, to compete in the championship of the tournament. This championship being the last for the Wooden Shoes because they are leaving the conference and the first for the Movin' Maroons.
On Saturday, January 14 the Lady Wooden Shoes Varsity basketball team defeated Belleville West in the Highland Tournament with a score of 44-32. Teutopolis Wooden Shoes played the Vandalia Vandals on January 17, winning the high school basketball game 81-44 for the third home game of the new year. Teutopolis started out strong in the first quarter, creating an 11-point lead with Mark Niebrugge contributing 4 shots behind the three-point line and Jon Mette, Kyle Pruemer, Derek Smith, and Jared Waldhoff also adding to the overall score of 26 to Vandalia's 15.
The Teutopolis High School Girls Fresh/Soph basketball team competed in the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City basketball tournament on Saturday, January 7.
