Class 2A regional contest between Fieldcrest and Olympia

Fieldcrest nearly came all the way back from a three-run deficit but left two runners on in the final inning in dropping a 3-2 decision to Olympia in the semifinal round of the Class 2A El Paso-Gridley Regional Tuesday at South Pointe Park.
The Knights fell behind 3-0 after Olympia scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings. Fieldcrest tallied two markers in the top of the sixth inning to make it exciting in the seventh.
Kim Turner singled to lead off the FHS sixth inning and Lexi Jochums reached on an error on her sacrifice to put runners on first and second. The runner at second was Camrie Kuehn, who came on as a pinch-runner for Turner before Jochums’ at bat.
Addie Goodrich got the sacrifice bunt down to move both runners into scoring position. Paige Sons fanned but Alivia Tjaden came through with a base hit to drive in Kuehn and Jochums.
The Knights made some noise in the seventh inning as Aubrey McNamara walked with one out and Jacie Sullivan reached on an error that put the tying run on second base and the go-ahead marker on first. But Turner and Jochums each grounded out to end the game.
Tjaden had three hits and drove in both runs for Fieldcrest. Sullivan and Turner had the other two FHS safeties.
Emma Lorton took the loss after allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a walk. She struck out two.
Kaelyn Leverson got the win for Olympia with a six-strikeout effort. Emme Olson and Sydney Usherwood each had two hits and Kate Finchum had a double and two runs batted in.
