State golf from Friday involving Ali Schrock, Dani Grace Schrock , Josh Kilcullen and Griffin Nyi

Ali Schrock and Dani Grace Schrock are within striking distance of a state championship after the first round of the Class A state finals girls’ golf tournament at Red Tail Run Golf Course Friday.
The weather was less than ideal with rain and cold providing additional challenges. But Ali Schrock was able to battle through the conditions and shoot a two-over 74 to put herself three strokes behind Eureka’s Allison Pacocha, who shot one-under 71.
Schrock is tied with Elaine Grant of Chillicothe IVC while Emma Thorman of Macomb is sitting at 75.
Dani Grace Schrock is the third freshman in the top five with her 76. She is tied with Emily Hayhurst of Beecher.
Of those top six players, five of them competed at the Pontiac Sectional earlier this week at the Elks Club.
Ali Schrock, the defending state champion, was rather steady on the day. She opened with a birdie on the first hole and ended her round with a birdie  on the par-5 18th. In between, Schrock recorded 12 pars, including seven in a row on the front. She bogeyed No. 9 to finish the first nine even. Bogeys on the 10th, 13th and 16th holes pushed her score up.
Dani Grace Schrock was more up and down. She recorded two birdies — both on the front side — and had four bogeys and one double bogey. Schrock’s birdies came on the third hole, putting her at one under for a moment, and at No. 9 for a first nine of one-over 37. She shot 39 on the back.
Ali Schrock will be with Pacocha, Grant and Thorman in the final group and is expected to tee off at 9;42 a.m. Dani Grace Schrock is matched up with Hayhurst, Auburn’s Katie Tanner and Lauryn Davis of Richmond-Burton in the next-to-last group. Their tee time is 9:33.
