Pontiac wins swimming invitational

    Pontiac scored the most points at the varsity and junior varsity levels in claiming the program championship of the Uni-High Invitational girls’ swim meet over the weekend.
    Megan Lauritsen was the top point-scorer for the Indians in the varsity competition with two individuals victories and as part of a winning relay as PTHS collected 354 points. The JV squad garnered 304 for a combined 658, easily outdistancing host Uni-High (569) and third-place finisher Olympia (536).
    Lauritsen won the individual medley in 2 minutes, 38.38 seconds for her first victory. Camryn Mies was fifth as Pontiac’s depth proved to be the deciding factor in the meet. Lauritsen also captured the breaststroke in 1:21.46 with Mies also placing fifth.
    Lauritsen swam the second leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay team, which included Ava Nollen, Elena Pina and Keely Pickett that won in 4:17.84.
    Pickett placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.17 seconds and Katie Stock was fifth. Pina was runnerup in the butterfly at 1:13.43 with Mackenzi Mies taking third (1:16.18).
    Also placing third for the Indians were Nollen in the 200 freestyle (2:23.57), Pickett in the 100 free, Stock in the 500 free and Nollen in the backstroke (1:13.12) with Samantha Mehrkens taking fourth.
    In the relays, PTHS was third in the medley with Nollen, Lauritsen, Pina and Pickett finishing in 2:07.57. Mehrkens, Camryn Mies, Stock and Pina placed third in the 200 freestyle relay at 2:02.98.
    In the JV portion, Pontiac scored first-place points five times while scoring runnerup points to this wins each time. The Indians placed second eight times in all.
    Individually, Hannah Grove led a trio of Indians to the top three places in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:06.35. Korinne Maquet was next at 1:11.49 and Emma Dewald was third at 1:11.86.
    Mackenzi Mies won the backstroke in 1:18.96 with DeWald taking second at 1:26.23. Mary Hilt won the breaststroke in 1:17.41, edging runnerup Alana Christianson (1:28.44).
    In the relays, the quartet of Hilt, Madeline Doran, Anneke Esposito and Grove awn the 200 freestyle relay in 2:08.29. Christianson, DeWald, Maquet and Julia Trembley teamed for second at 2:12.18.
    The 400 free relay foursome of Stock, Mackenzi Mies, Camryn Mies and Esposito won in 4:44.79. taking second was the team of Doran, Hilt, Trembley and Maquet at 5:04.07.
    The medley relay team of DeWald, Christianson, Trembley and Esposito was second at 2:27.39. Also placing second for the Tribe were Esposito in the 50 free (30.35 seconds) and Trembley in the butterfly (1:25.74).
