JFL football from the weekend

    Pontiac's Junior Football League Chiefs had a good week without a loss being reported as the season winds down. The Senior Varsity and Varsity teams triumphed while the Squirts walked away with a tie.
    The SENIOR VARSITY Chiefs rushed for nearly 300 yards in a 21-6 win over Lincoln in a contest that saw the defense put points, as well.
    The Chiefs scored first when Masen Persico ran in from a yard in the first period. Pontiac added a touchdown on special teams and tacked on points on defense in taking a 15-6 halftime lead.
    Lucas Tucker recorded a safety for the Chiefs and Aundre Hendershott returned a kickoff, with Persico adding the conversion for the halftime difference.
    Aaron Shrewsbury completed the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown jaunt in the third. The Chiefs then left it in the hands of the defense to close out the victory.
    Hendershott rushed for 147 yards and Ethan Isenberg had 56 yards on just two carries. Raul Martinez contributed 42 yards, Persico chalked up 24 yards and a touchdown and Shrewsbury had 10 and a TD on his only trip. Tristan Wilfong and Adam Ahrends each had three yards and Adam Rodriguez rushed for two yards.
    Hendershott was 7 of 11 throwing for 27 yards.
    The quintet of Shrewsbury, Tyson Cramer, Alex Carwyle, Austin Burkhardt and Ayden Hobart had six tackles apiece to lead the defense. Hendershott, Wilfong and Evain Weedling had four stops apiece with Persico, Martinez, Devonte Chambers, Ashton Peacock, Isenberg, Rodriguez, Tucker and Hector Garcia also had tackles. Persico had an interception and Cramer and Wilfong each had a fumble recovery.
    The VARSITY Chiefs needed double overtime but it worth it in registering a 39-38 victory over Lincoln.
    Hunter Melvin led an offense that found the end zone on the ground and through the air. Melvin rushed for 102 yards, which included a pair of 3-yard touchdowns. He also had two conversion runs. Nick Crane threw for 62 yards and a touchdown, and added six rushing yards. Kaleb Kennedy contributed 59 rushing yards, 42 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Marcus Martinez chalked up 36 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards with a touchdown. He also had a conversion run.
    Orville Compton had a 21-yard interception return for a touchdown. He also had four tackles. Kennedy had 10 tackles and two interceptions, Melvin collected 10 tackles and a sack, Martinez had six stops and Crane had four tackles and a sack. He also recovered a fumble. Santi Pina and Iziah Wright each had four tackles while Alex Valenzuela, Chance Smith and Camden Gillette also had tackles.
    Pontiac's SQUIRTS played to a 20-20 tie with Pekin Black.
    Koletin Schilling broke loose for touchdown runs of 63 and 60 yards for Pontiac and 17 total yards of offense. He rushed for 149 yards on the day. Aiden Prendergast also had a touchdown and two conversion runs. Antonio Guzman rushed for 16 yards.
    Prendergast led the defense with two sacks and a fumble recovery. Tyler Hawthorne and Jacob Thorson had four tackles while Neftali Schafer, Chianti Jessup, Warren Jardine, Cullen Marsack, Guzman and Schilling were each in on tackles.
