Junior high girls' basketball

Pontiac’s eighth grade girls were triumphant with a 36-28 victory over Roanoke-Benson in basketball on Thursday.
The Warriors erupted for 17 points in the second quarter after holding a slim, 7-6 edge at the close of the opening frame. The 24-11 halftime was augmented by two points to 35-20 through three periods.
Makayla Niles paced PJHS (8-6) with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Paityn Richardson also had 8 points while Riley Foster checked in with 7 points and 7 boards. Mackenzie Coates contributed 7 points and 5 boards with Trinity Bohm, Makayla Metz and Bailee Myers each putting up 2 markers.
Flanagan-Ransom
STREATOR — Flanagan won two of three grade school girls’ basketball games against host Ransom on Thursday.
The Falcons opened with a 14-11 win in the 5th-6th grade game. Kora Edens had 6 points for Flanagan with Emme Wallace adding 4, Natalie McCoy and Reegan Fish each had 2 points.
A fast start in the eighth grade game lifted Flanagan to a 36-17 victory. The Falcons scored 11 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second in taking a 26-8 halftime lead. Kortney Harms led the way with 15 points and Raegan Montello added 6. Kaiden Connor and Grace Zimmerman each tallied 4 points with Lacee Essman throwing in 3 and Kayli Brooke and Cheyenne Burns each scoring 2 points.
The seventh grade Falcons fell 24-12. Morgan DeWald scored 4 points with Addie Isenberg chipping in 3 for Flanagan. Connor and Wallace each had 2 and Tifany Rustman netted 1 point.
