Wooden Shoes Win Track Sectional and Break Records

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes won the IHSA Boys Track and Field Sectional at Robinson High School on May 21 and broke a couple of records.

The team scores were: Teutopolis 90, Robinson 77, Olney 66, Newton 61, Effingham St. Anthony 56, Vandalia 47, Lawrenceville 46, Bridgeport Red Hill 34, Flora 33, Altamont 14, Mt. Carmel 12, Oblong 10, St. Elmo 10, and Palestine 2.

Records were broken by Alex Kastl in the Pole Vault at 13 feet, 9 inches, and by the 4 x 400 Relay team of Jared Summers, Blake Thoele, Shawn Weber, and Chris Ludwig with a time of 3:30.52.

Andrew Vahling, a sophomore for Teutopolis, also did exceptionally well in the Hurdles placing first for both the 300M Interm Hurdels (time of 40.97) and the 110M Hurdles (time of 15.35).


Teutopolis Wooden Shoes Win Baseball Regional

On Saturday, May 22, the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes Baseball team defeated St. Anthony for the Regional title with a score of 4-1. The winning pitcher was Luke Bushur who struck out 14 of the St. Anthony Bulldogs. Hits for Teutopolis were: Bo Blievernicht 2, Mark Niebrugge 2, Derek Thompson, Derek Repking, Garrett Overbeck, Dillon Hardiek, and Ryan Pruemer each had 1 hit. St. Anthony hits were: Justin Schutzbach 1 and Michael Kabbes 1.

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes Boys Baseball team defeated the Vandalia Vandals in the Regional semi-finals on May 19 with a score of 11-0. The winning pitcher was Derek Thompson. Hits for T-Town include: Luke Bushur 3, Bo Blievernicht and Garrett Overbeck both received 2 each, Derek Thompson, Derek Repking, Kyle Zerrusen, Ryan Pruemer and Jeff Bloemer all received 1 hit each.

Teutopolis improves to 26-4. Luke Bushur picks up the win and is now 8-0 for the spring. St. Anthony ends their season at 18-15. Teutopolis will play the winner of the Champaign (St. Thomas More) Regional on Wednesday at 4:30 at the Tolono Unity Sectional.


Teutopolis Ties for 2nd in Tennis Sectional

The 2010 IHSA Boys Tennis Sectional was hosted by St. Anthony High School on May 21 and 22. The team results are as follows: 1st place St. Anthony at 33 points; 2nd place tie: Robinson 18 and Teutopolis 18; 4th place Charleston 17; 5th place tie: Casey-Westfield 6, Mattoon 6, and Paris 6; 8th place tie: Effingham 2, Newton 2, and Shelbyville 2.

•Trent Gebben lost to Austin Siler, Robinson 6-0, 6-0

•Ryan Deters placed 4th

Remarks from Coach Kaye Kimpling: We had a great tournament with some very competitive matches. The guys all played well. Singles player Ryan Deters and doubles team of Michael Brummer and Willie Jansen advanced to the state tournament.

Dieterich High School Girls Softball

On May 18 the Dieterich High School Girls Softball team was defeated by Beecher City with a score of 4-0. The two hitters for Dieterich were Ashley Phillips and Chelsey Storm, both with one hit each.
