Wooden Shoes Defeat St. Anthony for Regional Championship

For the third time this season, the Wooden Shoes basketball team has defeated the St. Anthony Bulldogs, this time at the Shelbyville Class 2A Regionals. The game took place on Friday, February 26 at Shelbyville. The game was a close match, especially during the first quarter.

St. Anthony had the lead 9-8 after the first quarter, and at halftime, the Bulldogs still had the lead with a 21-20 score.

The tides turned during the third quarter, as the Wooden Shoes outscored the Bulldogs 17-9, taking the lead with the score at 37-30. In the final quarter of the game, St. Anthony scored 22 points, while T-Town scored 21. The margin wasn't enough for the Bulldogs to secure a victory, as the Wooden Shoes won 58-52. The Shoes' record improved to 24-3, and the Bulldogs' to 21-7.

Wooden Shoe Nick Schumacher didn't shoot during the entire first half, but made up in the third quarter by scoring ten points for the Wooden Shoes. He added five more points in the fourth quarter. Jordan Michels led the Wooden Shoes with 16 points scored. J. Niebrugge scored 9, Thompson 8, Sandschafer 6, Blievernicht 2, and M. Niebrugge 2.

Bulldog Kit Koerner led St. Anthony with 14 points. Also scoring double digits was James Jansen with 13 points for St. Anthony. Taylor Worman scored 9.

St. Anthony basketball will be saying goodbye to their senior players, Taylor Worman, Myles Baker, Marty Jansen, Derek Rohlfing, Alex Lustig, and Paul Sudkamp.

Wooden Shoes Defeat Madison

The Wooden Shoes basketball team defeated Madison on February 19 in an 80-49 boys' basketball final. Thompson scored 24 points, followed by Schumacher with 19. J. Niebrugge scored 12, Michels scored 7 points in the game, Braun and M. Niebrugge each scored 4, Bushur scored 3 and Deters scored 1. The Wooden Shoes were winning 15-9 at the end of the first quarter, and scored 25 points in the second, bringing the score to 40-25 at halftime. In the end, T-Town defeated one of the top southern Illinois Class 1A teams with an 80-49 score.
