Knights win fifth game of season

Fieldcrest needed a win to put itself in playoff position. The Knights did that with a 26-6 victory over rival El Paso-Gridley in a Heart of Illinois Large Division contest at Veterans Park Friday night.
The Knights now sit at 5-4 with 39 playoff points, which should get them into the postseason. Fieldcrest's coaches, players and fans will find out tonight when the pairings are announced.
Fieldcrest first had to get things done and it did. Tyler mcKay connected with Derek May for a 15-yard touchdown with 6:17 to go in the first quarter. The conversion kick failed but FHS led 6-0.
El Paso-Gridley isn't going to make the playoffs, and that was known after last week's loss. But the Titans still had something to play for — bump off Fieldcrest and keep the Knights home, too.
Ryne Faulk capped a scoring drive for EPG with a 5-yard run that tied it 6-6 with 1:59 to go in the opening frame.
EPG battled the Knights tough throughout, but Fieldcrest managed a score here and a score there to ease away. The FHS defense was also stuffing the Titans' run game.
Kenton Castrejon ran in from five yards to put the Knights ahead with 2:30 left in the first half. Jacob Joyal kicked the extra point for a 13-6 FHS lead.
McKay went to the air in the third and found Blake Bratt for a 5-yard touchdown. Joyal's kick made it 20-6 with 6:28 remaining in the quarter.
Jaxon Cusac-McKay hauled in a McKay offering for a 7-yard TD with 7:24 left in the game for the final tally.
Tyler McKay was 15 of 27 for 219 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted once. Cusac-McKay had 56 yards on five grabs. Castrejon led the run game with 80 yards.
Faulk rushed for 109 yards and a TD in his final game for the Titans (3-6). Maddux Rigsby was 8 of 14 throwing for 69 yards.
