MACOMB — A Chicago man was found in possession of more than 35 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms and 294 grams of cannabis on Thursday, Oct. 18.
According to a Macomb Police Department press release, a search warrant was conducted by the Macomb/McDonough County Drug Unit at 430 W. Elting St., Apt. 8 in Macomb for suspected manufacturing of psilocybin mushrooms, a Schedule I substance at 10:36 p.m. on Oct. 18. Upon searching the residence, officers located a large psilocybin mushroom grow operation containing over 35 pounds of the mushrooms. Officers also recovered 294 grams of cannabis in the residence.
Esteban Hernandez, 21, was located in the residence and placed under arrest. Hernandez was charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis 30 grams to 500 grams. Hernandez was lodged at the McDonough County Jail.
According to police, the total street value of the psilocybin was $56,000.
The Macomb/McDonough County Drug Unit consists of officers from the Macomb Police Department, the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, the Office of Public Safety at Western Illinois University, and the Bushnell Police Department.
All subjects are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
